Bruce Timm Admits He Wanted To Do Man Of Steel Ending Years Ago!

Bruce Timm, the man behind Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, Justice League: Unlimited, Batman Beyond, just to name a few has been pretty vocal as of late about the choices DC has been making with their movies, especially Man of Steel and how it ended.  While discussing the his work on “Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles“, Timm let it known that he not only didn’t have a problem  with Superman killing General Zod, but he wanted to do the same ending for his animated film Superman Verses Doomsday.

bruce timm, dc, wb, man of steel, animated movie, gambitcon“A couple years back, when ‘Man of Steel’ came out, I remember the frenzy of the fans when they said, “Oh, I can’t believe Superman killed General Zod! Superman would never do that.” When I was watching the movie, my first thought was, “Well, dang, I wanted to do that in the Doomsday movie, when we had Superman versus Doomsday.  I was going to have Superman do exactly the same deed. Doomsday was going to be getting ready to kill some innocent bystanders, and Superman was already mortally wounded, and he was going to use his last bit of strength to break Doomsday’s neck.”

“DC wouldn’t let me do it,” he added. “I said, ‘OK, well this version of Superman can do that.’ Nobody could ever say Superman can’t do that. This version of Superman, we don’t know what he’s going to do.”

Perhaps, then, it’s not a surprise to learn that Timm’s latest project will walk a similarly dark path. “I have mentioned this before, one of the things that intrigues me about these characters is the fact that they have a completely different sense of moral obligation and duty than the traditional Justice League. They will cross lines that the traditional Justice League characters won’t.”

“Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles” launches today via Machinima. The animated feature film directed by Sam Liu, produced by Timm and Alan Burnett, and starring Benjamin Bratt, Michael C. Hall, and Tamara Taylor, arrives July 28.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Official Synopsis Revealed!

The suits behind next summer sure-fire blockbuster have released the official Synopsis for the film which is being directed by Zack Snyder and written by Chris Terrio (Argo) and while it officially states what we’ve already known, it also raises more questions.

batman v superman: dawn of justice, dc, wb, ben affleck, henry cavill, gal gadot, comic book movie, gambitcon“Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs.  And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.”

So…what is this new threat?  Is Doomsday actually going to show up and cause mayhem like rumors have been suggesting?  Or could Lex have something more sinister planned?  Guess we’ll have to find out next March.

James Gunn Tweets First Draft Of Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 Script!

james gunn, guardians of the galaxy 2, chris pratt, marvel, disney, gambitconThings are starting to move forward with Guardians of the Galaxy 2 as James gun sent out this pic of the finished first draft of his highly anticipated follow-up which gained critical praise and grossed $774.2 million worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing superhero film of 2014.  Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt talked a bit about the possibility of the Guardians joining The Avengers in a future film.

“That’s speculation,” said Pratt. “I haven’t heard that. No, no one’s ever discussed it with me… I think like the universe itself it’s best to expand outward. I don’t personally — and it’s not up to me, I’ll do whatever they want me to do — I don’t want to see the Guardians defend Cleveland, Ohio. We’re cosmic man. I want to be in space.”

While I do agree, I do hope they cross paths and I think they will for Avengers: Infinity Wars.  Marvel is really locking up the comic book film genre and I for one can’t wait to see the upcoming movies unfold.  GotG 2 will hit theaters May 05, 2017.

James Wan To Direct Aquaman!

Furious 7 director James Wan has been hired by Warner Bros. to direct Jason Momoa’s Aquaman solo film.

Charles Roven, the films producer, talked about hiring the Australian director.

aquaman, gambitcon, james wan, dc, wb, zack snyder, deborah snyder, charles roven“James, first on New Line’s ‘The Conjuring’ and now on their upcoming ‘The Conjuring 2,’ and are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our DC slate. The Aquaman film will be a major tent-pole picture for us and James’s span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material.”

“James is not only a great storyteller but can make action truly explode on the big screen, and Jason has a dynamic presence that commands your attention. Together, they will bring an undeniable vitality and energy to this character as he headlines his first feature film.”

Wan will also be supervising the script by Kurt Johnstad (“300,” “300: Rise of an Empire”). The film is being produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder.

I think this is an awesome idea.  Wan is one of my favorite directors, starting out in horror with Saw and two of my favorites The Conjuring and Insidious, the man hit it really big with Furious 7, which I felt he was using as a demo reel for his chance to direct a comic book movie anyway, has grossed over a billion dollars.

Aquaman is scheduled to hit theaters July 27, 2018.

Samuel L. Jackson Talks About His Marvel Contract!

Ever since Marvel announced their ‘shared movie universe’ fans of the comic books began to wonder who would play who but one character I always wondered about was if they would go with older or newer version.  In the original comics Nick Fury was white, but in the Ultimate timeline he is black which did shake a few trees of those who somehow car what an actors skin looks like.  So when Samuel L. Jackson was announced for Nick Fury many booed, many rejoiced and the man hasn’t let us down as he played Fury from film to film.

The actor discussed his love for playing the character, how he isn’t in Captain Amercia: Civil War, and how he looking to re-up his contract.

samuel l jackson, marvel, disney, gambitcon, nick fury“It’s an amazing amount of fun. I finally met [comics writer] Mark[Millar], last year, when I was doing Kingsman, ‘cause he was on set one day, and I finally got a chance to thank him for making Nick Fury black and changing the whole dynamic. It’s really great to be the connective tissue between so many different characters in so many different films, that brings those guys together. But I’m not in Captain America 3. I can’t figure that out, but I’m not. I guess I’m still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are.

But it’s an amazing honor to be that guy, to be Nick Fury, to be in that particular world, and to be a character that people believe. It’s great. I’m as grateful for being in that, as I was being in Star Wars with George [Lucas] and to play a character that people remember, like Mace Windu. It’s all great. It’s hard not to be a part of something that you know, if people study film for the next 200 years, they’ll be talking about Star Wars and The Avengers series, and all that stuff.”

When asked if he was interested in continuing with Marvel he answered in the least ‘Sam Jackson’ way every.

“Of course [I’m interested in returning]! I’m looking for a contract extension right now, yeah. I’m looking to re-up.”

I love Jackson as Nick Fury and once this era of comic book films is over and he can no longer play the character I’m not sure how I would feel but for now I’m enjoying the ride.

RUMOR: Marvel Is Courting Charlize Theron For Captain Marvel & Angelina Jolie To Direct!

So word is circulating that Angelina Jolie is being courted to direct Marvel’s Captain Marvel but under one condition, if they cast Charlize Theron as the title character.  I find this news to be completely absurd, but hey, let’s talk about it.  I think this is a very bad idea?  If if Jolie had managed to pick up even one comic book over her lifetime, would you really trust her with directing the franchise of movies?  Hell can you even see her directing one in the franchise?  Does she even seem like the type who loves the source material enough to respect it?  I could be wrong, she may be the biggest Captain Marvel fan out there, I just don’t see any reason to get excited about her hands being all over the series.

charlize theron, gambitcon, captain marvel, angelina jolie, marvel, disney, movie“Marvel has been courting Angie to direct the project and Charlize is a clear fan favourite for the starring role. If Charlize were to get the part, Angie would almost certainly sign on to work with her new pal.”

Now let’s talk about Theron as Captain Marvel…look, Charlize is clearly an amazing actress, and she is still amazingly hot, but she is another I couldn’t see sticking around for the multi-films her contract would require.  I’m more open to Charlize joining the the MCU but I don’ think I’d ever be behind Jolie.  I’m usually behind the directors Marvel chose but this one just has me guessing.  Right now nothing is completely set but given this news what do you think?

Dwayne Johnson In Talks For Remake Of John Carpenter Classic!

So Dwayne Johnson is in talks to star in the remake of Big Trouble in Little China, and while I adore The Rock and love his movies, this is feeling about as wrong as Ryan Reynolds was going to play Connor Macleod in the remake of The Highlander a while back and you gritted your teeth just thinking about watching that.

big trouble in little china remake, the rock, dwayne johnson, jack burton, john carpenter, gambitconWhile I’m not opposed to remakes,  I do feel that some movies can further succeed from a remake but then there are some movies that are so classic that they shouldn’t be touched.  Back to the Future is one, and while remaking the Indiana Jones movies would be ridiculous I’d be up for someone else playing Indiana and continuing on with more stories much like James Bond has been doing since the 70’s.

Here is my problem with this news, if you actually watched Big Trouble in Little China it clearly ends with a set up for a sequel, fans of the movie have been waiting for years to get that sequel only to never see it happen despite it’s cult status.  My brother and I watched this on HBO nearly every weekend and Jack Burton was our hero.

The casting for this just doesn’t fit.  The key to Jack Burton was he was a normal guy, caught in a very strange situation, and doing the best he could with what he had, how can any of that fit in with just the physicality of Dwayne Johnson right now?  The man is a walking 80’s action figure, how would he be scared of anything?  This is one of those times where a long awaited sequel would be better then a damn remake.  If you haven’t seen the film I can not recommend it enough, it’s really fun, has a lot of cool quotable lines, and Kurt Russell is amazing as Jack Burton so go and check it out.  Meanwhile, I’ll be hoping this project remains in development hell.

I’ve stated before that I didn’t really like the rebooted film, it had some cool moments but nothing I was amazed with but I’m still holding hope that they can do better with the sequel which is set to hit theaters next summer.

Iron Man Has Drawn The Line In The Sand!

Well, Robert Downey Jr has in the form of a pic he posted with the hashtag #pickyourside.  This is, of course, in reference to the plot line for Captain America: Civil War where Cap and Iron Man are at odds when the government wants to register and keep track of the super powered individuals where Tony Stark believes this is a good move, Steve and others do not believe the government should have that much control, which leads to Iron Man and others hunting down Cap and his followers.

Ryan Reynolds Discusses Possible Wolverine Cameo In Deadpool!

ryan reynolds, deadpool, wolverine, hugh jackman, fox, marvel, x-men, mutantsWhile promoting his new film, Woman in Gold, Reynolds said Fox and Jackman’s camp are trying to feature an appearance from the adamantium-clawed mutant. When asked if we will see Wolverine in Deadpool, he said,

“God I hope so, that would be really nice. I dunno, we’ll see. It seems like he’s open to it, but it’s gonna be more of a scheduling issue than anything else.”

The last time the two characters graced the screen together, it was the awful X-Men Origins: Wolverine to which they butchered both of them but from what we’ve seen of the the set photos and the announcement that Deadpool will be rated R, things are looking good for the offshoot comic book movie.

Look for Deadpool to hit theaters next Febuary!
